Training & Competency
The competence of our people is fundamental to everything we do. Operating in high-risk, regulated sectors such as energy and renewables, we are committed to ensuring that all personnel, whether directly employed or subcontracted, are fully trained, qualified, and capable.
Training and development are not just operational requirements, they are a key part of how we grow. By investing in skills and upholding professional standards, we build trust with clients, meet contractual obligations, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of the industry.
Our clients, who include SSE, BAM, Balfour Beatty, Kirby, expect the highest standards of safety, quality, and delivery. Competent teams enable us to meet these expectations, deliver projects efficiently, and maintain a strong safety record in line with industry legislation such as the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and CDM regs 2015.
At the core of our training commitment is the requirement for all project Managers to hold as a minimum SMSTS, CSCS, SEATS and TW, setting a clear and consistent foundation of competency across our teams with all. Competence drives quality, safety, and progress and underpins our continued success.
To ensure ongoing excellence, we carry out annual competency assessments, led by a director and supported by our contracts and project management teams. This structured approach keeps our workforce current, capable, and aligned with the latest industry standards and expectations.
We are proud members of CITB and play an active role in supporting the development and launch of the Skills Academy in Scotland, particularly in the Highlands. This is a strategic initiative aimed at tackling the ongoing skills shortage in the construction and civil engineering sectors. Our involvement reflects a strong commitment to long-term workforce development, not only within our own business but across the wider industry.
Through close collaboration with training providers, industry partners, and government bodies, we’ve contributed to shaping programmes that equip individuals with the practical, job-ready skills required to thrive in modern infrastructure and renewable energy projects. These academies offer structured training pathways, real-world site experience, and a route to sustained employment for both new entrants and those upskilling.
By helping drive these initiatives forward, we are investing in the future of construction in Scotland — building a more resilient, inclusive, and skilled workforce capable of meeting the industry’s evolving needs.
