Global Infrastructure, a trusted civil engineering and construction partner to the energy and utilities sectors and part of the Global group, has announced the appointment of 25 new staff – including three new Directors. The bolstering of its 200-strong team comes as the Highland-based contractor gears up to support tier 1 operators engaged with SSEN Transmission’s north of Scotland electricity network upgrade programme.

Leadership team strengthened

Among the 25 new hires which brings the Global Infrastructure headcount to 200 (100 site/100 office-based) are: Senior Planners, Senior Quantity Surveyors, Project Managers, Estimators, Engineers, Quality Assurance leads, HR Co-ordinators and Administrators and various Trades and Apprentices. The company has also made he following additions to its leadership team:

  • Kevin Williamson promoted to Managing Director, having previously held role of Commercial Director.
  • Stephen Logan appointed as Operations Director.

Speaking about the senior appointments, Chief Executive Officer, Iain Henderson, said:

“We are delighted to confirm the appointments of Kevin, Stephen and Darren - three extremely capable leaders boasting 30+ years with the company between them and vast experience across the civils sector. With further additions to be made when new projects come on stream - we now have a great platform in place to deliver sustainable growth that is projected to see our turnover increase from £60m to £100m in the next five years.”

In a large part this growth is being driven by Global Infrastructure’s long-established focus on the Scottish energy sector, which has been further reinforced in recent years as investment in critical energy infrastructure has gathered pace. Indeed, it was early engagement and a relationship dating back 25 years with trusted partner, SSEN Transmission, that saw the company invest in the people, equipment and training required to deliver the projects now coming on stream.

“Global Infrastructure is proud to be playing its part in placing the Highlands at the heart of Scotland’s energy future,” adds Henderson. “We are currently pricing, tendering and engaging with opportunities that could total up to £500m across the energy and utilities sectors over the next five years, which could have a transformative impact on the Highlands and our communities.

“A secure and sustainable pipeline of work supports not only our own workforce, creating long-term skilled jobs and learning opportunities, but also underpins dozens of Highland subcontractors in the supply chain, including structural steelwork firms, M&E specialists, fit-out contractors, plant hire, haulage businesses, and materials suppliers.

Targeting geographical growth

In his new role, Managing Director, Kevin Williamson, is set to lead Global Infrastructure through a once-in-a-generation economic opportunity, that will see tens of billions of pounds invested in upgrading Scotland’s electricity network - with SSEN Transmission committing over £20 billion by 2030 in the north alone. He comments:

“Having worked my way up the company as it has grown over 15 years, I can’t think of a more exciting time to be taking on my new role. As a trusted long-term partner to SSE and tier 1 contractors - BAM Nuttall, Balfour Beatty, and Kirby - in recent years we’ve supported major energy infrastructure projects across the country, from the North and East of Scotland, through to major logistics and operational facilities in Inverness and Dundee, and many points in between. These long-established relationships and our reputation for delivering projects of the highest quality perfectly position us to support the many opportunities to come.”

Recently Global Infrastructure has worked closely with SSE across a range of framework, tendered and negotiated opportunities, including major transmission works, flood alleviation schemes, EV charging networks and depot infrastructure. For key long-term client, BAM Nuttall, it has supported the delivery of major energy transmission schemes — including at Dounreay Substation — and is engaged on the development of further major multi-year projects at Beauly (Fanellan) and Bingally. Global Infrastructure is also supporting a number of SSE Renewables hydro refurbishment and replant schemes, including at Tummel and Lochay, with further opportunities emerging at Inverawe and Foyers.

The last five years has seen Global Infrastructure evolve at pace, growing our turnover by 200%,” adds Williamson. “We’ve continued to adapt, both in scale and capability, and that’s been driven by the commitment and quality of our existing team, alongside a number of key appointments made more recently.

“With our strengthened leadership team in place, we are perfectly positioned to take the next stage of our growth journey - expanding our presence beyond the Highlands and across the country, be that organically or through considered acquisition opportunities as they arise.”

New office at UHI Inverness Campus

2025 saw Global Infrastructure move to a new office at Aurora House on the Inverness Campus - retaining its operational base at Beauly. Later this year Global Infrastructure is poised to move into the new multi-million pound 2,000m, state-of-the-art headquarters of parent company, Global – designed and built by group companies Bracewell and Capstone Construction. The office is set at the heart of HIE’S Inverness Campus Freeport zone and is becoming a de facto centre of excellence, occupied by key stakeholders in the Scottish energy infrastructure sector.

Rory Mackenzie, CEO (Investments) at Global, comments:

We’re confident about the future of Global Infrastructure. As part of the wider Global group rebrand, the company has recently completed a brand refresh that, combined with the formation of a new leadership team, provides a strong platform to showcase its capabilities and expand its presence in the energy infrastructure sector. With a clear focus on supporting the nationwide upgrade of the electricity transmission network, Global Infrastructure is creating new opportunities for the group by working closely with other Global businesses – such as HV cable installation and jointing specialist Global Power Services, as well as consultancy, planning, and design companies – helping to drive progress toward the UK’s net zero ambitions.
