Highland Cycle Ability Centre Chosen as Global Infrastructure’s 2026 Charity with £2,500 Donation

We believe in giving back and are always delighted to support a charitable organisation whose work has a meaningful and lasting impact within the communities we work and live in. This year, we are honoured to support the Highland Cycle Ability Centre, a charitable organisation run by The Watermill Foundation Ltd, located near Cawdor in Nairnshire, which operates the first open-air, all-abilities cycle track in Scotland.

The Highland Cycle Ability Centre aims to give people of all ages and abilities the chance to get outside, get moving, and try something new in a peaceful, safe, traffic-free environment. The centre welcomes people with all forms of disability and offers over seventy cycles, many of which are adapted to suit a range of access and supportive needs. Facilities include a 1.2 km tarmac track, fully closed to traffic and set within scenic woodland alongside the River Nairn, as well as a smaller adventure trail for those who are up for an extra challenge. For those unable to reach the centre, the charity also provides an outreach programme, travelling as far as the Shetland Isles!

Iain Henderson, CEO of Global Infrastructure, commented: “This is an extraordinary and resilient local charity, but unfortunately, many local people are not aware of the great work they are doing. Global Infrastructure is in a fortunate position to help, and by doing so, we hope we can spread the word about the charity and the facilities available, which are not only for those with a form of disability, but also for those who are simply looking for a safe, traffic-free environment to relax and exercise in, looking to learn or teach someone else to cycle, or simply want a fun family day out in the fresh air.”

Tom Strachan, Construction Manager, Global Infrastructure, commented: “Living in close proximity to the track, I personally know the founders, Alastair and Joanna, and know how much hard work and time they give to ensure the wheels keep turning on over seventy cycles, many of which are adapted to suit those with access and supportive needs. Their door is always open for those who would like to see the centre, see all the work they do, and try out some of the extraordinary cycles – which I have had the opportunity to do! Amazing work is being carried out by The Watermill Foundation, and I was delighted to be asked to hand over a cheque for £2.5k on behalf of Global Infrastructure.”

Joanna McGregor, Founder and Chairman of Highland Cycle Ability Centre, commented: “On behalf of The Watermill Foundation and the Highland Cycle Ability Centre, thank you to Global Infrastructure for the generous donation. Thank you for choosing us as your charity partner for 2026, and we look forward to working with you throughout the year on fundraising activities. Hopefully we will meet and see more of the Global Infrastructure team down at the track!”
