Global Infrastructure welcomes CECA Scotland Academy students to Dundee site

Posted on April 21, 2025

CECA Scotland Academy students from Dundee and Angus College recently had the opportunity to visit our site in Dundee, where we’re currently constructing a strategic spares warehouse — designed to bolster the efficiency of Scotland’s high-voltage electricity network — for SSEN Transmission.

The visit offered the students a chance to engage with industry professionals and witness the practical applications of their studies. It also showcased how their college learning translates directly into real-world employment and highlighted the range of job opportunities available within the industry.

John Cowie, Trainee Site Manager (Global Infrastructure), who is currently working on the Dundee warehouse project, commented: “To help prepare the students for successful careers in civil engineering and construction, Allan MacDonald (Construction Manager) and I took them on a site tour, with an opportunity to have a Q&A session with someone from each trades on site, including bricklayers, electricians, plant operators, and labourers.”

The SSEN Transmission warehouse in Dundee is nearing completion, with approx. three months to go. The site team is currently progressing with mechanical and electrical works, internal fit-out, and external works including kerbing, roads, ducting, street lighting, boundary fencing, car parking, EV chargers, and PV panels, as well as public utility connections. Road surfacing will follow, along with final landscaping and planting.
