Every month, we will highlight our directors and their unique paths into the Construction and Civil Engineering sector.

Earlier this month our Procurement Manager Colin Grant and Contracts Manager Tom Strachan attended Culloden Academy #MyFutureFriday with Developing the Young Workforce Inverness & Central Highland.

It's brilliant to hear Construction is consistently a top 5 career choice for the students at Culloden so we were delighted with the opportunity to speak about the Civil Engineering and Construction Industry especially as the current workload is booming in the Highlands.

Colin and Tom discussed a range of topics from entry level positions including apprenticeships and trainee roles within our company, grade requirements, opportunities for development and change pathways.

In case you missed it - Perthshire’s iconic Tummel Bridge Power Station is generating renewable electricity once again following the successful installation and energisation of the first of two new hydro power turbines!

We are delighted to be the Principal Contractor for the duration of the project, which so far, has involved establishing and controlling a complex site, coordinating and managing the safety and work packages of all contracting staff and visitors, and delivering enabling works including site establishment, superstructure bracing work, and general site readiness.

We have also successfully managed the complex dismantling of the original 90-year-old equipment, completed civil works to remove the original foundations within the powerhouse down to bedrock, and reinstated a new foundation for the plant.

Here’s what our Managing Director, David Macdonald, had to say about the project: “Tummel Bridge is a vital part of SSE moving towards zero carbon, and we are delighted to have played a leading role in delivering this project for our client. This project involved a complex design with a lot of interface management between different supply chains, and we hope this is the first of many projects we will be delivering with SSE over the next five years.”
