Farigaig Sub Station
Project: Farigaig Sub Station
Location: Farigaig, Torness
Client: Balfour Beatty
This major Energy & Renewables project saw Global Infrastructure undertake construction of a new 275 132 kV super grid sub station at Farigaig, near Torness.
The substation, situated approximately 22 km south of Inverness, connects two new wind farms to the transmission network. This required the erection of two new steel lattice towers on the adjacent Foyers – Knocknagael 275 kV overhead transmission line to divert the line through the new substation.
Global Infrastructure formed the site platform on open hillside which involved extensive earthworks and rock processing. The sub-station works consisted of access roads, the HV compound, control building and all foundations for HV structures and transformers.
